Welcome to University College! You are entering an exciting time in your academic career; meeting new friends, getting exposed to unique and cutting edge knowledge, and starting your path to a professional career. No one makes this transition without significant support, and we are here to provide that!
Through University College and the Division of Undergraduate Education, you have access to academic success and career advisors, as well as mentoring and tutoring in areas like math, biology, chemistry, psychology, physics, writing, and speech. One of the aspects that makes me so proud to work at Indiana University Indianapolis is the dedication that we have to student success. It is at the core of what guides our work each day.
If you talk to most faculty, they often took a non-linear path to their final major. I started out a music major at my first university, realized it was a mistake, and went home to take classes for spring semester at a community college. I took a developmental psychology class there, realized I had found my area of passion, and transferred the next fall as a psychology major at my alma mater. If you are uncertain of your academic major or if you decide to change your major (almost 40% of students do!), we provide the support and expertise to help you explore options and find your area of passion.
You are entering IU Indianapolis at an exciting time; we are developing new academic programs, opening up new athletic facilities, and building new research spaces for students to engage with faculty. Additionally, we connect with organizations within the city to develop co-ops, internships, and community-engaged learning experiences which add richness to your academic experience.
