Globalization has led to rapid changes in our economy, culture, laws, technology, and education. Help students adjust to these changes and become culturally competent by becoming a world language teacher.
The IU Indianapolis Bachelor of Science in Education and World Languages degree combines an extensive foreign language study with a foundation in education theory and instructional methodologies. The early urban school field experiences help teacher candidates recognize how multilingualism and language development are influenced by social, cultural, and geopolitical contexts.
This degree is for students interested in completing a major in a foreign language and a teaching license in Spanish or American Sign Language. It aims to meet the requirements recommended for Indiana's secondary education teaching license.

Most of those openings are expected to result from the need to replace workers who transfer to different occupations or exit the labor force, such as to retire ( Occupational Outlook Handbook , 2025).
