Ellen Stroup

Student Success Advisor, HLS Cluster

Pronouns:
She/ Her
Email:
eemarbur@iu.edu
Department:
Academic and Career Development
Campus:
IU Indianapolis, IU East

Education:

  • Master of Science in Education (M.S.Ed.), Higher Education and Student Affairs, University of Dayton
  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.), Psychological Sciences (Minor in Human Development and Family Studies, Minor in LGBT Studies), Purdue University

Professional Experience:

  • Tenure with the Office of Academic and Career Development: Since April 2026.
  • Favorite part about the work you do: I love talking to students about what sparks their passion and gets them excited about learning, even if it's a topic I don't know about or can't relate to. I love to dig deep with students and talk about their hopes, fears, dreams, and plans, no matter how big or small.
  • Past jobs and experience: After earning my Master's, I worked at two universities in Ohio, Miami University Middletown and Wittenberg University, before joining IU Indy's O'Neill School as a Recorder. After that, I worked in the Office of Student Involvement as a Student Life Specialist, where I advised student organizations.

Advice to students: Learn how to study. Try different things, especially at the start of each semester, and find the method, location, and atmosphere that works best for your unique brain. What works for someone else won't always work for you, and in many ways, college is a journey towards finding what is right for YOU.

If you could be any major in your cluster, what would it be? Why?
I love volunteering with animal rescues and have worked at a couple of vet's offices in the past, so I would be interested in Pre-Veterinary Medicine!

Biography: I am originally from Newburgh, Indiana, but I moved to Ohio for 4 years before returning back to my home state. I live with my husband (who I met in college!) and our two cats, Winston and Meebs. When I'm not working, I'm probably listening to a politics or pop culture podcast, a standup comedy special, a Broadway musical soundtrack, an emo band that I loved in high school, or Taylor Swift.
